Module 14: The Future of Intelligence Collection

Review all module materials and expectations carefully before beginning your work.

Module Overview

This module serves as the culmination of the course by examining the future of intelligence collection in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. Intelligence agencies face rapidly evolving challenges that include cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, great-power competition, transnational threats, emerging technologies, disinformation campaigns, and shifting geopolitical alliances. As the global security environment continues to change, intelligence organizations must adapt their collection strategies, analytical capabilities, and organizational structures to remain effective.

Students will explore how geopolitical developments may reshape intelligence priorities and influence the methods used to gather and analyze information. The module examines the challenges associated with forecasting future threats, managing uncertainty, and balancing traditional intelligence practices with innovative collection technologies. Students will also consider how intelligence agencies can remain agile in the face of rapidly changing security environments.

Particular attention will be given to the role of collaboration in future intelligence operations. Effective intelligence collection increasingly depends on cooperation among domestic agencies, international partners, private-sector organizations, and technological innovators. Students will evaluate the opportunities and challenges that future intelligence professionals are likely to encounter and assess how intelligence organizations can prepare for the next generation of security threats.

Important: Carefully review all module materials, instructions, and grading expectations before beginning any activity.
