Overview

In this discussion, you will examine the future of intelligence collection in an increasingly complex and interconnected world. Intelligence agencies must continuously adapt to emerging technologies, evolving geopolitical relationships, transnational threats, cyber challenges, and rapidly changing information environments.

This activity asks you to evaluate how future developments may reshape intelligence priorities, collection strategies, and organizational structures. You will consider how intelligence agencies can prepare for uncertainty while maintaining effective collaboration across agencies, governments, and international partners.

  • What role will interagency collaboration play in overcoming future challenges in intelligence collection?
  • Which emerging threats are most likely to shape intelligence priorities over the next decade? Consider issues such as cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, transnational crime, terrorism, climate-related instability, economic competition, or great-power rivalry.
  • How should intelligence agencies adapt their collection methods, technologies, and organizational structures to remain effective in a rapidly changing global environment?
  • If you were advising intelligence leaders on preparing for the future, what would be your highest priority recommendation and why?
Acceptable and Ethical Use of AI
  • You may use AI tools to explore emerging intelligence trends, future security challenges, or evolving intelligence technologies. Any information obtained through AI should be verified using course materials and credible sources.
  • Predictions about the future involve uncertainty and competing viewpoints. Use AI as a research aid rather than a forecasting authority, and ensure that your discussion post reflects your own analysis of future intelligence priorities, risks, and opportunities.

  • Students must complete one Main Post that answers the discussion topic using more than 250 words.
  • Students must reply to at least two of their classmates (Peer Responses) using at least 150 words. Responses should encourage further dialogue in the discussion forum. Asking a classmate a question is a nice way of furthering that dialogue.
  • Students must first compose an original Main Post to gain access to the discussion forum. Attempts to post a blank initial post or anything other than the true Main post will result in a 20-point deduction.
