Overview
In this assignment, you will examine the role of international intelligence partnerships in addressing global security challenges. Modern threats such as terrorism, cyberattacks, transnational crime, pandemics, and geopolitical conflicts often extend beyond national borders, requiring intelligence agencies from multiple countries to cooperate and share information.
You will evaluate how international intelligence partnerships responded to a significant global crisis, assess the effectiveness of those efforts, and propose strategies for strengthening international cooperation in an increasingly complex security environment.

Assignment Topic
Select a global crisis or international security challenge and evaluate how intelligence partnerships among nations responded to the situation. Examples may include international counterterrorism efforts following September 11, intelligence cooperation during the fight against ISIS, responses to major cyber threats, efforts to combat transnational organized crime, intelligence sharing during the COVID-19 pandemic, or another instructor-approved case study.
Begin by describing the crisis and explaining why international cooperation was necessary. Identify the countries, alliances, organizations, or intelligence agencies involved and discuss the primary security challenges they faced.
Analyze how intelligence partnerships responded to the crisis. Consider information sharing, joint operations, intelligence collection efforts, analytical collaboration, diplomatic coordination, technological cooperation, or other forms of international engagement.
Evaluate the effectiveness of these partnerships. Discuss both successes and shortcomings, including challenges related to trust, political differences, legal restrictions, information security concerns, differing national priorities, or operational coordination.
Next, assess how evolving global threats may affect future intelligence partnerships. Consider emerging challenges such as cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, transnational terrorism, disinformation campaigns, great-power competition, climate-related security issues, or other international concerns.
Finally, propose specific strategies for strengthening international intelligence partnerships. Consider mechanisms for improving trust, information sharing, joint training, technological interoperability, policy coordination, legal agreements, or multilateral cooperation.
Conclude by evaluating whether international intelligence cooperation is becoming more important or more difficult in today’s geopolitical environment.
