Module Overview

This module introduces the foundational concepts of intelligence collection and its role in supporting national security, public safety, and informed decision-making. Students will examine the purpose of intelligence collection, explore how intelligence supports policymakers and operational personnel, and consider the challenges associated with gathering, analyzing, and using information in a rapidly changing global environment.

Through the assigned readings and learning activities, students will explore how intelligence collection contributes to counterterrorism, cybersecurity, military operations, law enforcement, and international security efforts. Particular attention will be given to the importance of accurate, timely, and actionable intelligence in addressing modern threats and supporting strategic objectives.

Students will also begin examining the legal and ethical considerations associated with intelligence collection, including the balance between national security interests and individual rights. These foundational concepts will serve as the framework for understanding the intelligence disciplines, collection methods, technologies, and organizational structures explored throughout the remainder of the course.
