Review the assignment overview, learning objectives, directions, and submission expectations before submitting your work.
Overview
In this assignment, you will examine the primary purpose of intelligence collection and its role in protecting national security. Intelligence collection supports government leaders, military organizations, and public safety agencies by providing information that helps identify threats, reduce uncertainty, and support informed decision-making.
You are expected to connect course materials and real-world examples to demonstrate how intelligence collection contributes to national security objectives. In addition, you will evaluate one ethical or legal challenge associated with intelligence collection and explain why it remains an important issue for intelligence professionals.

- LO2: Analyze intelligence collection activities and their contributions to government decision-making and threat prevention. (SLO3)
Assignment Topic
Write a paper explaining the primary purpose of intelligence collection and its impact on national security. Begin by describing why governments collect intelligence and how intelligence supports national security objectives.
Next, discuss at least two real-world examples that demonstrate the importance of intelligence collection. Examples may include counterterrorism operations, Cold War intelligence activities, cybersecurity efforts, military operations, or other significant intelligence events.
Finally, identify and discuss one ethical or legal challenge associated with intelligence collection. Explain why this issue is important and how intelligence agencies attempt to balance security needs with ethical responsibilities, civil liberties, or legal requirements.
Your paper should demonstrate an understanding of intelligence collection concepts while incorporating specific examples to support your analysis.
