Psychological theories of crime focus on individual cognition, development, and adaptation to environmental conditions. These theories differ from biological and sociological approaches by emphasizing how individuals perceive, respond to, and cope with their surroundings.

  • Compare key psychological and psychiatric approaches presented in this module, focusing on how each explains criminal behavior.
  • Analyze how crime can function as a form of adaptation to environmental conditions.
  • Evaluate why an individual might choose criminal behavior over other available forms of adaptation.
  • Examine how criminal justice policies or practitioner strategies could address crime using an adaptation-focused approach.
Your response should emphasize analysis, application, and practitioner relevance rather than summary.
