Overview
Cybercrime often attracts individuals who would not engage in traditional street crimes. Factors such as anonymity, skill-based challenges, and perceived low risk can blur the boundaries between legitimate activity, entertainment, and criminal behavior.
In this assignment, you will analyze why cybercrime appeals to certain individuals and examine how digital environments influence perceptions of crime and responsibility.

Assignment Topic
Cybercrime differs from traditional offenses in how it is experienced and perceived by offenders.
In your paper, address the following:
  • Analyze why cybercrime may appeal to individuals who would not commit crimes such as burglary or robbery.
  • Examine how anonymity, distance from victims, and perceived technical skill reduce traditional deterrents to crime.
  • Analyze how similarities between hacking and computer gaming can blur the line between entertainment and criminal behavior.
  • Evaluate how these perceptions complicate prevention, enforcement, and criminal justice responses to cybercrime.
Your response should emphasize analysis and application rather than personal opinion.
Acceptable and Ethical Use of AI
  • Use AI to clarify concepts related to cybercrime, hacking, or digital subcultures. Do not use AI to write sections of the paper.
  • Use AI to help identify research on offender motivation in cybercrime, then independently analyze how those findings apply to this assignment.
