In the next module, you will explore intelligence, preparedness, and counterterrorism engagement strategies as the capstone of CRJ205 Response to Terrorism. You will examine major critiques of United States intelligence and preparedness systems, including lessons drawn from the Gilmore Commission and the USA PATRIOT Act, and evaluate how intelligence collection, analysis, and information sharing influence terrorism prevention efforts. You will also analyze intelligence failures, interagency coordination challenges, interrogation practices, and the use of force in counterterrorism operations. Finally, you will synthesize what you have learned throughout the course by completing your final research paper, applying concepts related to terrorism, prevention, intelligence, legal frameworks, organizational response, and policy development to a real-world case.
In Module 7, you will complete the following learning activities:
- Review assigned readings and videos related to intelligence systems, preparedness, counterterrorism policy, and engagement strategies.
- Examine the Gilmore Commission findings and the USA PATRIOT Act to evaluate intelligence authorities, oversight, and preparedness challenges.
- Review the module lecture presentation focusing on intelligence failures, information sharing, and counterterrorism decision-making.
- Participate in Discussion Forum #1 examining intelligence failures, warning indicators, and interagency coordination.
- Participate in Discussion Forum #2 evaluating counterterrorism engagement decisions, including interrogation practices, use of force, and operational effectiveness.
- Complete and submit your Final Research Paper, demonstrating your ability to integrate course concepts, evaluate terrorism response efforts, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
- Prepare for the conclusion of the course by reflecting on the major themes of terrorism prevention, preparedness, response, intelligence, legal frameworks, and policy development.
