This module examines how criminal liability can extend beyond the individual who physically commits a criminal act to others who assist, encourage, or participate in the offense. Through the assigned readings, you will explore the legal foundations of accomplice liability, conspiracy, and vicarious liability, along with doctrines such as natural and probable consequences. These principles help courts determine when shared responsibility is appropriate and where the limits of criminal accountability should be drawn.

The learning activities in this module move from applied analysis to judicial reasoning. You will begin by evaluating a scenario involving encouragement of self-harm and assessing whether accomplice liability applies, including what criminal charge, if any, is appropriate.
