Overview

Criminal defenses play a central role in determining whether otherwise criminal conduct should be justified or excused under the law. Courts closely examine defenses involving the use of force to assess issues such as reasonableness, necessity, proportionality, and legal duty. These analyses help ensure that criminal liability is imposed fairly and in accordance with constitutional and statutory principles.

In this assignment, you will compose a complete case brief using the IRAC model, with specific attention given to the Analysis and Conclusion sections. You will also identify the primary defense or legal principle addressed in your assigned case, such as self defense, duty to retreat, castle law, defense of others, or consent. This activity reinforces your ability to analyze how courts evaluate criminal defenses and apply legal standards to complex factual situations.
