Overview

Understanding criminal law requires the ability to analyze how courts apply legal principles to real situations. One of the most important skills in criminal justice and legal studies is the ability to read a court decision, identify the controlling legal issues, and explain how the court reached its conclusion. The IRAC model provides a structured method for breaking down judicial reasoning in a clear and logical way.

In this assignment, you will compose a complete case brief using the IRAC format. Particular attention should be given to the Analysis and Conclusion sections, where legal reasoning and outcomes are explained. You will also identify the primary legal concept addressed in your assigned case, such as intent, jurisdiction, penalties, or statute of limitations. This assignment reinforces legal reasoning, case analysis, and structured writing skills that are essential for understanding criminal law and future coursework in the criminal justice field.
