Overview

Property crimes encompass a wide range of offenses that protect ownership, possession, and the security of property. Courts distinguish among these offenses based on conduct, intent, use of force, and method of deprivation. Understanding how crimes such as burglary, robbery, larceny, fraud, and arson differ is essential for accurately classifying criminal behavior and determining appropriate charges.

In this assignment, you will compose a complete case brief using the IRAC model, with specific attention given to the Analysis and Conclusion sections. You will also identify the primary property crime doctrine addressed in your assigned case, such as larceny by false pretense, robbery, burglary, fraud, arson, or mischief. Where burglary is involved, you must clearly explain why the burglary charge was challenged. This activity strengthens your ability to analyze how courts distinguish among property crimes and apply legal doctrines to resolve disputes over criminal classification and liability.
