Overview

Criminal liability in cases involving sexual offenses, stalking, and abduction often turns on issues of consent, deception, and statutory protection of vulnerable victims. Courts carefully analyze whether consent was valid, whether deception undermined that consent, and whether strict liability doctrines apply regardless of a defendant’s belief or intent. These principles are especially important in cases involving minors and coercive conduct.

In this assignment, you will compose a complete case brief using the IRAC model, with specific attention given to the Analysis and Conclusion sections. You will also identify the primary legal doctrine addressed in your assigned case, such as fraud in the factum, mistake of age, stalking with malice, the tender years doctrine, or kidnapping without specific intent. This activity strengthens your ability to analyze how courts evaluate consent, intent, and deception when determining criminal responsibility in crimes against the person.
