Overview

Criminal homicide encompasses a range of offenses that vary based on intent, circumstances, and statutory doctrine. Courts analyze factors such as malice, use of a deadly weapon, felony involvement, and the manner in which a killing occurred to determine the appropriate degree of homicide. These distinctions are critical for ensuring proportional punishment and accurate application of the law.

In this assignment, you will compose a complete case brief using the IRAC model, with specific attention given to the Analysis and Conclusion sections. You will also identify the primary homicide doctrine or legal principle addressed in your assigned case, such as felony murder, malice, voluntary or involuntary manslaughter, corpus delicti, or lying in wait. This activity strengthens your ability to analyze how courts classify homicide offenses and apply complex legal doctrines to determine criminal liability.
