Overview

In this discussion, you will examine the relationship between criminalistics, forensic science, and the growing role of digital evidence in criminal investigations. Criminalistics focuses on the examination and analysis of physical evidence collected from crime scenes, while forensic science encompasses a broader range of scientific disciplines used to support legal investigations and court proceedings.

This activity asks you to explore how advances in technology and social networking platforms have transformed modern criminal investigations. Law enforcement agencies increasingly rely on digital evidence, social media activity, photographs, videos, geolocation data, and online communications to identify suspects, establish timelines, corroborate witness statements, and develop criminal cases.
