Module Overview

In this module, you will examine patrol operations, one of the most visible and important functions of modern law enforcement. Patrol officers serve as the primary point of contact between police agencies and the communities they serve. Their responsibilities include responding to calls for service, preventing crime, maintaining public order, and enforcing the law.

You will also explore major criminological theories that seek to explain why individuals engage in criminal behavior. Understanding these theories is important because assumptions about the causes of crime often influence policing strategies, crime prevention efforts, and public policy decisions.
