Module 3: Police Organizations and Administrative Models

Review all module materials and expectations carefully before beginning your work.

Module Overview

In this module, you will examine how police organizations are structured and administered. Law enforcement agencies vary significantly in size, mission, and complexity, requiring different organizational models to effectively manage personnel, resources, communication, and decision-making. Understanding organizational structure is essential for evaluating how police agencies operate and respond to the needs of their communities.

You will explore traditional and contemporary organizational theories, including the Mintzberg Model and alternative organizational structures commonly used in public and private organizations. Particular attention will be given to how organizational design influences leadership, accountability, communication, technology integration, and operational effectiveness.

Through readings, discussions, and applied learning activities, you will evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different administrative models and consider how organizational structure affects the delivery of police services in modern law enforcement agencies.

Important: Carefully review all module materials, instructions, and grading expectations before beginning any activity.
