Module Overview
In this module, you will examine the future of policing and the emerging technologies that are reshaping law enforcement practices. Police agencies increasingly rely on advanced tools to prevent crime, investigate complex offenses, improve officer safety, analyze data, and respond to new forms of criminal activity. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, facial recognition, drones, robotics, digital forensics, license plate readers, and real-time crime centers are changing how agencies operate.
You will also evaluate the challenges created by these technologies, including privacy concerns, civil liberties, bias, public trust, transparency, and accountability. While emerging tools may improve efficiency and investigative capacity, they also require careful oversight to ensure that technological innovation does not undermine constitutional rights or community confidence.
Through readings, discussions, and applied learning activities, you will identify future trends in policing, assess the benefits and risks of new technologies, and consider how law enforcement agencies should prepare for evolving criminal threats in the twenty-first century.
