Module 12: Organized Crime, Terrorism, and International Law Enforcement

Review all module materials and expectations carefully before beginning your work.

Module Overview

In this module, you will examine the growing connections between organized crime, terrorism, and transnational criminal enterprises. Advances in communication, transportation, finance, and technology have enabled criminal and terrorist organizations to operate across national borders, creating complex challenges for law enforcement agencies throughout the world. Modern criminal networks frequently engage in activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, cybercrime, weapons smuggling, and fraud to generate revenue and support their operations.

You will explore the relationship between organized crime groups and terrorist organizations, examining both their similarities and important differences. Particular attention will be given to how criminal enterprises and terrorist groups sometimes cooperate, share resources, or utilize similar methods to achieve financial, political, or ideological objectives. You will also evaluate the role of international law enforcement agencies, multinational partnerships, and crime commissions in combating transnational threats.

Through readings, discussions, and applied learning activities, you will analyze real-world examples of organized crime and terrorism, assess international enforcement efforts, and examine the challenges associated with policing criminal activity that extends beyond national boundaries.

Important: Carefully review all module materials, instructions, and grading expectations before beginning any activity.
