In this discussion, you will examine the concepts of morals, ethics, values, and herd mentality and evaluate how these ideas influence professional behavior within law enforcement. Police officers operate within multiple systems of expectations, including personal beliefs, organizational culture, legal requirements, professional codes of conduct, and community standards. While these influences often complement one another, they can also create tension and conflict.

This activity asks you to analyze how individual and societal expectations shape behavior and decision-making. You will also explore how police subculture can influence officers both positively and negatively, and how herd mentality may affect ethical decision-making, accountability, and public trust.

As you examine the image, consider how different groups may define ethical behavior, professional conduct, justice, authority, accountability, and community service. Also consider how public perceptions of policing may differ from the realities of police work and police culture.
