Module Overview
This module focuses on developing a deeper understanding of criminological theory through both comparison and real-world application. You will begin by examining major schools of criminological thought and working collaboratively to evaluate how different theories explain criminal behavior. Through group discussion and debate, you will analyze the strengths and limitations of competing theoretical perspectives and defend your chosen approaches. The module then shifts from theory comparison to practical application by using Social Disorganization Theory to examine real communities. You will observe environmental and social conditions in a selected location and analyze how those factors may contribute to crime. Finally, you will propose realistic strategies for crime reduction based on your observations and theoretical understanding. Together, these activities emphasize critical thinking, collaboration, and the application of criminological theory to real-world contexts.
