Module Overview
This module focuses on understanding juvenile delinquency and the legal framework that governs how youth are treated within the justice system. You will examine the risk factors that contribute to juvenile delinquency, considering how individual, family, school, peer, and community influences interact to shape behavior. The module also explores how criminological and developmental theories help explain these risk factors and inform prevention and intervention strategies. In addition, you will analyze landmark Supreme Court decisions that define the rights of juveniles, such as due process protections and limits on punishment. By connecting causes of delinquency with legal standards and constitutional safeguards, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of juvenile justice in the United States. Together, these activities emphasize both prevention and legal accountability in responding to youth crime.
